Entropy

According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, Entropy in the universe is always increasing. Things are always going from a state of low entropy to a state of high entropy:

The universe perpetually moves towards disorder

…And so, your room will always require cleaning:

Not only is Entropy increasing in space, but also through time. This water-drop radiating outwardly demonstrates Entropy in space

And also as a function of time (temporally) because the GIF below is instinctively appraised as if it must be the reverse of the above – almost as if there is no way it could ever occur spontaneously.

Entropy is therefore also known as the Arrow of Time.

If Disorder is indeed always increasing, then how do we achieve any Order at all?

Life

Life reverses Entropy.

In the physical sciences (chemistry, biology, etc.), entropy is reversed via Self-Organization. The folding of proteins from the primary structure made of amino acids…

…to the alpha helices and beta sheets constituting the secondary structure…

…and on to the 3-dimensional tertiary structure…

…is one of many such examples found in Biology and related branches of the Physical sciences.

In the Social, Economic, and Network sciences, this is otherwise known as Spontaneous Order. We see this everywhere, such as whilst observing a flock of birds…

…or an army of ants…

…a school of fish

…or a cooperative of Cypherpunks…

We are continuously reversing Entropy to maintain Order [in space]. The biological imperative for Life is to counter the disorganizing forces of Entropy and minimize Free Energy.
